The core competences of polyscale are based on the micro structuring of large surfaces for optical applications und the transfer of the developments into serial production processes. Due to the experience in this field the technology can be adapted to manufacture high performance light guide plates.
In general different types such as lenses, pyramids, prism or saw tooth like structures are possible. Additional parameters like size (starting from 100 µm2), Position, Density (from 60.000 single structures per cm2), angles, edge sharpness or depth (from 10 µm) can be individually determined.
According to the individual demands an optical design is developed which leads to the optimized setup and determination of the different parameters. The following prototype shows exactly the generated layout. This prototype then will be used to build up a tool which then is integrated in the serial production process. Thus the exact same layout and appearance of the structures can easily be reproduced. Polyscale works with different production methods which are chosen per project to realize the max economical and technical result. Each manufactured serial part has exact the same optical features as the initial master piece.
Due to the customized design for each application the light guide is optimized for the initially determined parameters (size, thickness, LED incoupling etc.). Such it also is only useful for this one application. A simple scaling of the product and the realization of other values of the parameters is not possible without a serious decrease of performance.
The technology targets high volume serial production. The resulting initial costs for the design, prototyping and tool manufacturing depreciate via the large quantity.
